“Nanodreadlocks. Harvard scientists have found a way to grow nanobristles — tiny hairs — into helical structures like these nestling a polystyrene sphere. Starting with a series of upright pillars, strands grew out of an evaporating liquid that assembled itself into strands that clumped to one another, like braided hair. Joanna Aizenberg, one of the scientists, said the process was similar to how wet curly hair clumps into dreadlocks, at one-1,000th the scale.”
